VIAD invites you to Multi-Vidual Realms: Returning To Forbidden Gestures
Azania Forest / Lesego Seoketsa
15 April 2026
Venue: Visual Arts Printing Studio
Time: 13:00pm – 14:00pm
‘Multi-vidual’ is a term the artist created in the attempt to become the plural of individual. Where one person exists as more than one aspect of themselves. To have more than one lifestyle, philosophy and therefore different personalities.
Lesego Seoketsa/Azania Forest speaks about her explorations with adornment as a return to forbidden gestures of inquiry and a reclamation of self-fashioned identity.
Seoketsa’s work situates beauty as both a survival strategy and a site of critique, exploring its role in mediating access, belonging, and visibility. By juxtaposing ancestral imaginaries with modern aesthetic economies, she interrogates the tensions between heritage, assimilation, and autonomy. Her practice combines documentary impulses with abstraction, using material experimentation to reflect on performance of identity, spirituality, and liberation within present-day social structures.
Her work has been featured in several publications, including: The Sunday Times, Faculty Press by Thebe Magugu, WePresent by WeTransfer, Elle Magazine India, Vogue UK, Holland Herald in-flight Magazine, and Glamour Magazine South Africa.
